In Bridge of Souls, you’ll find a few of my favorite tales, woven through Cassidy’s own adventure, as she faces her most dangerous foe: Death. I wanted to see the city through her eyes. I walked the French quarter, and explored a few of the city’s many, many graveyards, ate in the restaurants and drank in secret speakeasies, and everywhere I went, I heard stories, and knew that this was a place Cassidy and her family had to visit. This person is an emissary of Death, who has come to claim what Cassidy stole from Death.

However, soon after she arrives, she sees a mysterious person with a skeleton mask, who she first saw in Paris. I sat in the red-tinted seance room in Muriel’s restaurant. New Orleans is a haunted city, filled with ghosts for Cassidy to hunt down. I learned about the infamous Lalaurie Mansion, home to serial killer Delphine Lalaurie. I took ghost tours through the French Quarter, and saw parades and funerals with equal flare, ate beignets and gathered stories from friends and strangers who lived in this city.

Over the last four or five years, I went back again and again, each time learning more about why it was such a beacon of supernatural energy. A place known not only for ghosts, but vampires, psychics, witches, voodoo.
